Book | Carving a Community: The Katu People

$20.00

The Katu are a small ethnic group living in the Annam Mountains of Southern Laos and central Vietnam. Due to their remote and inaccessible villages, the Katu have kept many of their cultural traditions intact. They are skilled in a number of traditional arts and TAEC wished to honour their heritage by curating a special temporary exhibition back in 2013 titled, “Carving a Community: The Katu People”.

The special exhibition and subsequent soft cover, 45-page catalogue, assembled years of research which highlighted the Katu’s rich spiritual and artistic traditions and cultural heritage. The display currently lives on in a permanent location in Sekong Province.

This exhibition catalogue gives an overview of the Katu culture and society in Laos. Contents and chapters include:

  • The Katu
  • The Village
  • Gifts of Exchange
  • Gender Roles
  • Changes
