Book | Voices of the Wind: Traditional Instruments in Laos

“Voices of the Wind: Traditional Instruments in Laos” was recently published by the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre and authored by ethnomusicologist Marie-Pierre Lissoir and TAEC co-founder Tara Gujadhur.

This full colour, 48-page softcover book is the culmination of two years of research and a special exhibition documenting wind instruments and music in Laos. Music and musical instruments are a part of everyday life. For celebrations, courtship, rituals, or to communicate with the spirits, musical practices touch every member of a community during every part of the year.

The book highlights cultural practices, individual wind instruments, and musician stories – some the last surviving musicians and instrument makers in a village or a region. A perfect gift for the music lover or those who have spent time in Laos.
