The Tai Lue people of Laos have been making indigo dye for centuries. The dye is made from the Indigofera tinctoria plant, which is grown in the mountains of Laos. The leaves of the plant are crushed and fermented to produce a deep blue dye. Tai Lue women have a special relationship with their dye pots, and they take great pride in caring for them.

In keeping with all things natural, Tai Lue cotton is harvested and processed by hand making it ultra soft and luxurious. These large cotton textiles can be used as a shawl, throw, or a runner.

“Voices of the Wind: Traditional Instruments in Laos” was recently published by the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre and authored by ethnomusicologist Marie-Pierre Lissoir and TAEC co-founder Tara Gujadhur.

This full colour, 48-page softcover book is the culmination of two years of research and a special exhibition documenting wind instruments and music in Laos. Music and musical instruments are a part of everyday life. For celebrations, courtship, rituals, or to communicate with the spirits, musical practices touch every member of a community during every part of the year.

The book highlights cultural practices, individual wind instruments, and musician stories - some the last surviving musicians and instrument makers in a village or a region. A perfect gift for the music lover or those who have spent time in Laos.

This book pairs well with "Cultural Diversity in Laos: Stories from the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre".
