This vibrant storytelling piece is our most popular wall hanging in Luang Prabang. These extraordinary textiles are handwoven by master Tai Daeng silk weavers in Houaphan Province and they tell the story of life in Laos. Woven motifs represent Buddha, alms giving, weaving, spinning cotton, boat racing, playing the "khaen" mouth organ, and many other significant life moments. Another unique detail of this piece is the papery white tops of the tassels are actually made of silkworm cocoons!

You can spend hours admiring this piece and delight in discovering new motifs every time. Each textile is unique in thread colour combinations -- no two are the same.

Tai Daeng women raise their own silkworms for the costly and delicate hand-reeled silk woven into their ornate textiles such as this exquisite wall hanging. They can be hung as gorgeous wall art or used as decorative bed or table runners. TAEC also carries a smaller size, 192x25cm.

This hand woven textile depicts the spiritual water serpent Naga. According to legend, 15 nagas protect the city of Luang Prabang. The creature occupies an important place in the city’s culture and several festivals are held to pay respect for the mighty serpent. While the naga is a pre-Buddhist figure, it is now completely integrated into the Buddhist pantheon.

Please note: Colour and pattern combinations may vary slightly from the textiles photographed.
