A private, non-profit institution, the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre is a museum and resource centre dedicated to the ethnic cultures of Laos.  Located in a historic building in Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Centre’s exhibitions feature ethnic clothing, household objects, religious artefacts, and tools.  Our objective is to promote understanding of the lifestyles and traditions of Laos’ ethnic diversity. 

The Centre also has a Museum Shop selling books, photos and exclusive handicrafts directly from ethnic communities.  The Patio Cafe, run by L’Elephant Restaurant, serves food and drinks with a view of That Chomsi.  Guided tours and seminars are available on request. 

As an advocate for the survival and transmission of the cultural heritage of Laos and a resource for the development of the traditional arts, the Centre is also involved in research, preservation and documentation of ethnic artefacts, educational outreach, and handicraft development.  Please browse our website for more details of our work.
